SOLO EXIBITION RESILIENCE AT KIECHEL FINE ART
“The Russian aggression of Ukraine brought me to Nebraska. War has cancelled my exhibitions and my paintings in museums have been lost. Meanwhile, my parents remain in Ukraine, my siblings are dispersed, my children have become bilingual, and America is my home. As an immigrant facing hardship, I’ve sought the Midwestern landscape as inspiration for my paintings. Trees symbolize stability and protection. My tender roots are now feeling their way through a new homeland. I search for continuity of my Ukrainian past and American present with hopes for the future"Opening Reception: March 8th, 2024 from 5-8 pm. Artist talk at 6:30 pm.On view now at Kiechel Fine Art, located at 1208 ‘O’ Street Lincoln, Nebraska

From a field of more than 150 applicants, I was honored to accept a six-week residency at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts (KHN) in Nebraska City. KHN provided an ideal environment for reflection during a time when I needed to process and document the effects of the Russian-Ukrainian war on my psyche, my family, and my country following my own departure from Ukraine in 2021. The residency also provided an opportunity to learn about the creative process of my fellow residents, including other visual artists as well as writers and composers. This timely opportunity was highly rewarding and productive, leading to exploration of other styles and modes of artistic expression. The outcome was a large triptych, Altar of Hope, featuring images from actual news footage of the shelling of Ukrainian cities within a universal metaphysical landscape of unity and transcendence.
